Intellectual Ablatement
So, here we are in this strange world of instant communication and infinite intellectual sources to consume, and there still are very few people on this earth with anything good to say. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to tell you that I have anything good to say myself, I simply want to point out that there's water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink.
Would there have been great classical writers like Homer and Shakespeare if there had been an internet in their day? Or would they have been like the rest of us, over-stimulated and devoid of any motivation to do anything? Would Edgar Allen Poe have developed his creepy literary sensibilities if they had been numbed by years of watching horror movies ranging from modern classics like 'the Thing' to Cult B-Movie classics like 'Evil Dead'? Do you think that Aldous Huxley would have envisioned a different 'Brave New World' if he had access to Prozac (ahem, Soma, anyone?)... and finally, would Holden Caufield of 'Catcher in the Rye' have been written with so much angst if JD Salinger had seen 'Napoleon Dynamite'??
Anyway, just ponderings based on observations of daily life. Can't complain here, I've got a house, a beautiful wife, and a dog... things are great. So I strive within my own little universe to make things happen, and get by day to day.
So stay a while and check out the things that I find interesting... or don't. There are millions of other pages on the net to look at... =]
